DEVICE AND PROCESS FOR IMPROVING MIXING IN THE UV DISINFECTION OF LIQUIDS

A device for the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection of liquids in an open or closed channel (1). The device has: A. An inflow for the liquid to be disinfected; B. A UV irradiator (2) arranged downstream of the inflow in a main flow direction (9); C. An outflow arranged downstream of the UV irradiator; and D. A mixing device (6) that is driven by an electric motor and is arranged between the inflow and the UV irradiator. The mixing device creates turbulence in the channel by generating a cross-flow (8) having a velocity component transverse to the main flow direction. The mixing device can be a propeller with a nozzle ring arranged at an angle of 90 degrees to the main flow direction.
