A method of placing a stiffener ring 1004 around the low pressure turbine case 1000 of a jet engine: - by machining at least one circumferential groove at a predetermined location around the low pressure turbine case 1000 - seating a stiffener ring 1004in each groove and linking the ends of the ring 1004 to an actuator 1002 - using the actuator to pull the ends of the stiffener ring 1004 together so that the stiffener ring 1004 applies a compressive circumferential force to the low pressure turbine case 1000. Inside the low pressure turbine case 1000 is a number of turbine blades. The tips of the turbine blades face a labyrinth seal on the inner surface of the low pressure turbine case 1000. |
