Disclosed is an isolated binding protein that binds human hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), comprising: (a) an immunoglobulin heavy chain variable region comprising the structure CDRH1-CDRH2-CDRH3, wherein (i) CDRHl comprises amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO. 15, (ii) CDRH2 comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO. 204 and SEQ ID NO. 205, and (iii) CDRH3 comprises amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO. 17, and (b) an immunoglobulin light chain variable region comprising the structure CDRLl-CDRL2-CDRL3, wherein (i) CDRLl comprises amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO. 18, (ii) CDRL2 comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO. 19 and SEQ ID NO. 206, and (iii) CDRL3 comprises amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO. 20, wherein the immunoglobulin heavy chain variable region and the immunoglobulin light chain variable region together define a single binding site for binding human HGF. Also disclosed is the use of the binding protein in the preparation of a medicament for inhibiting or reducing proliferation of a tumor cell.
