The arrangement (1) has two full wave rectifiers (GL1, GL2) whose inputs are connected between input terminals (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2) of a retrofit lamp. A semiconductor light source e.g. LED (55), is connected to an output of one full wave rectifier. Resistors (RW1, RW2) e.g. coil resistors, are connected with the input terminals of the retrofit lamp. A transformer is connected between the resistors and the full wave rectifier. A current source circuit and an electronic operation apparatus are connected to the output of the full wave rectifier for driving the semiconductor light source.
