PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce distortion generated in a shape of a fame image by a light-shielding mask without enlarging an optical system or imposing any extra designing load on the optical system. SOLUTION: The image display device includes a light source part, a control unit for causing the light source part to emit a laser beam which is a luminous flux having intensity corresponding to an image signal, a scanning part for two-dimensionally scanning the laser beam emitted from the light source part, a projection part for projecting the laser beam scanned by the scanning part to a projection target, and a light-shielding mask 50 disposed in the position of an image surface formed between the scanning part and the projection part to surround an image formed by the laser beam scanned by the scanning part. The shape of surrounding a circumference of an image by the light-shielding mask 50 is distorted in a direction opposite to an optical distortion direction generated by an optical system from the light shielding mask 50 to the projection target.
