<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the quantity of information by creating a difference image while using a document image obtained by performing color reduction processing suitable for the document image. <P>SOLUTION: A document image inputted by a document image input portion 1 is compared with a registered document image by a document identification portion 2 to specify a class of a document, color reduction processing is performed by a color reduction processing portion 3, and a difference image from a color-reduced image of the registered document image is generated by a difference image generation portion 4.
