PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a time-out about external access from occurring due to the execution of garbage collection processing in a storage apparatus. SOLUTION: The storage apparatus 1 includes: an input/output unit 11 whose data relating to external access is input to and output from; a memory 15 wherein input data can be divided and stored in a plurality of areas by using a cash area for temporary storage; and a control unit 16 which accesses the memory 15 on the basis of the external access and executes garbage collection processing of the plurality of areas including the cash area during access to the memory 15 based on the external access, to release the cash area. The control unit 16 divides the garbage collection processing of the plurality of areas including the cash area, which is executed during access to the memory 15 based on the external access, into a plurality of garbage collection processing steps to execute the garbage collection processing and responds to the external access during the plurality of divided garbage collection processing steps.
