PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic display device that prevents leakage and volatilization of an electrolyte, has excellent element strength and high white reflectance, and develops or erases color by voltage application, and to provide an easy method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In the electrochromic display device, an electrolyte layer 14 containing at least a photo curing resin is interposed between a display electrode 11a on a transparent substrate (display substrate 11) and a counter electrode 12a on a light transmissible substrate (counter substrate 12) which are disposed facing each other. An electrochromic layer 13 in contact with the surface on the counter electrode side of the display electrode is provided. A light shielding layer 15 is provided between the electrochromic layer and the electrolyte layer.
