The unit (12) has a housing (28) in which an electric machine (30) i.e. electromotor, a reduction gear stage (32) and a differential gear box (34) are accommodated, where the gear stage and the differential gear box are arranged downstream to the machine. Attachment units (26a-26d) attach the drive unit in two different symmetrical arrangements at a body of a motor vehicle, where the arrangements are interconvertible by reflection on a plane or by rotation around an angle from 175 degrees to 185 degrees. The gear stage reduces rotation speed of the machine. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a steering device for controlling a lane of a motor vehicle.
