PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel compound which has a fluorene skeleton of single functionality useful as a resin monomer raw material or the like. SOLUTION: In the presence of an acid catalyst and thiols, fluorenones expressed with formula (2) and a compound expressed by formula (3) are allowed to react to obtain the novel compound expressed by formula (1). In the formulas, R<SP>1</SP>denotes a substituent, R<SP>2</SP>denotes an alkylene group, R<SP>3</SP>-R<SP>5</SP>denote substituents, such as an alkyl group, k is an integer of 0-4, m is an integer of zero or larger, and n is an integer of 0-2.
