Disclosed are a playback device and playback control method capable of changing to regular playback just by changing relative inter-chassis positions in a scene for which content details are desired to be viewed, wherein the confusion caused by such user operations as key input does not exist, and which allows viewing of the content details. The disclosed playback device for playing back audio or moving image contents at a plurality of playback speeds is provided with a first chassis; a second chassis coupled to the first chassis; an output unit which is provided to the first chassis and which outputs contents related to the moving images or sound; and a control unit which outputs the content at a second playback speed if the relative positions of the first chassis and the second chassis change while the output unit is outputting the contents at a first playback speed.
