PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanning apparatus in which extremely superior optical performance can be obtained, highly accurate adjustment can be performed, and space saving can be achieved at low cost, and to provide an image forming apparatus with the optical scanning apparatus. SOLUTION: The optical scanning apparatus at least includes a light source device, a deflector, an incident optical system, and a scanning optical system. The scanning optical system includes return mirrors 30, and at least one of the return mirrors 30 is a return mirror with an adjusting mechanism comprising a scanning position adjusting mechanism and/or a scanning line tilt adjusting mechanism. In the optical scanning apparatus, a distance, in the main scanning direction between two points constituting the rotary axis 34 of the scanning position adjusting mechanism, is longer than 1/2 of the entire length in the main scanning direction of the return mirrors 30.
