PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material feeder having a separating pad easy to replace, and to provide an image forming device equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The sheet material feeder 700 includes a feeding roller 310, a guide member 410, and a separating unit 450 attachable/detachable to/from the guide member 410, the separating unit 450 having a housing 460, a holder 480 turnably mounted on the housing 460, the separating pad 490 mounted on the holder 480, a spring 470 arranged between the housing 460 and the holder 480 for energizing the holder 480 to be turned to the side of departing the housing 460, and a wall part 466 for restricting the turning movement of the holder 480 with the energizing force of the spring 470 in the state that the energizing force of the spring 470 remains.
