The invention discloses modular LED lamps and tubes. LED lamp is used here as a generic term, which covers LED bulbs, LED spotlights, LED tubes, compact LED lamps, and so on. One embodiment of the modular LED lamp comprises of modular LED lamp base and modular lamp cup. The modular LED lamp base comprises high voltage input cathode and anode electrical contacts, a lamp base housing enclosing a LED driver and low voltage output anode and cathode electrical contacts. A pair of electrical conductors connects the input contacts to the input of the LED driver. Another pair of electrical conductors connects the low voltage output of the LED driver to the output contacts of the modular LED lamp base. High input voltage enters the LED lamp base via the input contacts. Low voltage outputs from the lamp base via the two electrical output contacts. The LED driver has circuitry to isolate the high voltage from the low voltage. The modular LED lamp cup comprises lamp cup, LEDs mounted on printed circuit board. It further comprises electrical input contacts connected to the printed circuit board via electrical conductors. The modular LED lamp cup and modular LED lamp base share a complimentary interface which allows the LED lamp base and LED lamp cup to connect together or disconnect from each other easily. The low voltage output from the LED lamp base provides electrical power to the LED lamp cup. The invention also discloses modular LED driver. The modular LED driver comprises of electrical input contacts, electrical output contacts, LED driver enclosed within a casing, electrical conductors to connect the LED driver to the input and output contacts. Another embodiment of the modular LED lamp comprises of modular LED lamp base, modular LED driver and modular LED lamp cup. |
