<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve compression at a high compression rate without degrading the image quality of high-resolution image data, in a compression method for compressing image data in units of blocks. <P>SOLUTION: This image processing apparatus for compressing input image data includes: a division unit to divide the input image data into blocks each consisting of a predetermined number of pixels; a determination unit to determine whether the number of colors being the number of types of colors of pixels included in the block is not smaller than a predetermined number; a pseudo gradation unit to subject the image data to pseudo gradation for the block when the number of colors of the block is determined to be not smaller than the predetermined number by the determination unit; an acquisition unit to acquire arrangement of colors and color information in each block for the block determined to have the number of colors not smaller than the predetermined number by the determination unit and the block subjected to pseudo gradation by the pseudo gradation unit; and a storage unit to store the arrangement of colors and the color information acquired by the acquisition unit in units of blocks. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
