PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to output information showing the exact state of consumables while reducing the power consumption when an output of the information showing the state of the consumables is requested during the power-saving state thereof more than when the whole apparatus is recovered from the power-saving state. SOLUTION: When the output of the toner information or the like showing the toner state is requested (YES at 120) in the power saving state (YES at 122) of the apparatus, it is determined (124) whether a cover to be opened/closed upon the replacement of a toner cartridge has been opened/closed in the period of the power-saving state, when determined that the cover is not opened/closed, prior to the shift to the power saving state, whether the operation is performed is detected, and then, the toner information or the like stored in a storage part is outputted (126), on the other hand, when determined that the cover is opened/closed, power supply to the MCU of an image forming section is restarted to request the toner information, and then, the information showing the present state of the toner, read out from the storage part of the toner cartridge, is acquired/outputted (128 to 132).
