PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convey a sheet without vibrating it at a reading position. SOLUTION: In an image reading apparatus having: a lead roller couple 32 for conveying a document; platen glass 161 for receiving the document from the lead roller couple 32; an image reading means 150 for reading an image of the document on the platen glass 161; and a lead and eject roller couple 33 for receiving the document from the platen glass and ejecting the document, two rollers are included which are driven without holding the document therebetween, at positions opposed to the platen glass 161 between the lead roller couple 32 and the lead and eject roller couple 33, and a gap G1 between an upstream-side roller and the platen glass 161 is set smaller than a gap G2 between a downstream-side roller and the platen glass 161.
