PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing precisely a cutting operation even when a conventional cutting mechanism is used. SOLUTION: During recording operation, when a next recording is requested, it is determined whether a sub-scanning distance for intermittently conveying in the recording operation is longer than the positional displacement distance between the back end position of a recorded recording region and a cutting position (S102), and when the sub-scanning distance is not longer, conveying for the sub-scanning direction is performed (S103), to perform a recording processing (S104). When the sub-scanning distance is longer, conveying by the positional displacement distance is performed (S108), to perform the cutting operation (S109), and then, conveying for the remaining distance is performed (S113), to perform the recording processing (S114).
