PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner performing clogging sensing operation exclusively immediately after installation of the air conditioner in which an abnormality easily occurs in a refrigerating cycle and of highly accurately sensing the abnormality for a shorter time. SOLUTION: The air conditioner includes: an outdoor unit; an indoor unit; connection piping interconnecting the outdoor unit and indoor unit; a two-way valve installed adjacent to the outdoor unit and between an indoor side heat exchanger and a decompressor arrangement; and a three-way valve installed adjacent to the outdoor unit and between the indoor side heat exchanger and a four-way valve. Only during operation for the first time immediately after installation, the clogging sensing operation is performed. The clogging sensing operation is performed for a fixed time so that the temperature of a compressor reaches a predetermined temperature. When a temperature difference between a temperature sensed by an indoor piping temperature sensing means and a temperature detected by an indoor temperature sensing means is below a predetermined temperature, it is determined that the refrigerating cycle has an abnormality.
