PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analog electronic timepiece capable of starting movement of a hand quickly when starting driving even if a gear has a backlash, when a hand is rotated by switching the moving direction. SOLUTION: The analog electronic timepiece capable of moving a hand clockwise and counterclockwise includes a normally-rotatable and reversely-rotatable stepping motor, hands, and a plurality of gears for transmitting motion of the stepping motor to the hands. The timepiece further includes a correction pulse supply means (step S37-S39) for supplying a correction pulse for driving the stepping motor to a rotation direction corresponding to a next moving direction of a hand before a timing when the next movement request of the hand is generated, when the next moving direction of the hand is different from the previous moving direction ("YES" in step S34), after movement of the hand.
