A high-frequency electric wire comprising a center conductor (1) which comprises aluminum or an aluminum alloy, a coating layer (2) which covers the center conductor (1) and comprises copper, and an intermetallic compound layer (3) which is arranged between the center conductor (1) and the coating layer (2), is so formed that the composition thereof varies sidlingly from the center conductor (1) toward the coating layer (2) and has a higher volume resistivity than that of the coating layer (2), wherein the coating layer (2) has a cross-sectional area of 15% or less relative to the sum total of the cross-sectional areas of the center conductor (1), the intermetallic compound layer (3) and the coating layer (2).
