The embodiments of the present invention disclose a method, an apparatus and a system for neighbor discovery. The method includes: a neighbor detection message is sent according to a neighbor virtual local area network (VLAN) information table including neighbor VLAN information(101); a neighbor response message responded by a terminal is received(102); a MAC address of the terminal is obtained according to the neighbor response message(103). The technical solutions provided by the embodiments of the present invention can solve the problems of the heavy burden of devices and the much consumption of CPU resources caused by a great deal of the invalid detection when neighbor detection traversing a public network VLAN and a private VLAN is performed.
