The invention relates to a method for applying at least one layer of an application medium to the surface of a traveling paper, board or other fibrous web (2) in a machine (3) for producing and/or finishing the fibrous web (2), wherein the fibrous web (2), dried to a residual moisture content, is pre-dried without contact after coating at least one side of the web.
