<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which includes a light source using a light emitting element such as a light emitting diode or a semiconductor laser, the projection type display device having a high-luminance and high-quality with low power consumption by suppressing temperature rise and reduction in light emission output due to concentration of an irradiation spot, and by shortening spoke time and preventing degradation in a display image. <P>SOLUTION: The illumination device 2 includes the light sources 3, 4 and 5, phosphor layers R and G stimulated to emit light by the light sources 3, 4 and 5, and an optical system defining an optical path of the light emitted from the light source and the phosphor layer. The phosphor layers R and G are formed on a transparent base material 10a whose rotation can be controlled and which is plane parallel and circular, and the irradiation spot S of the light emitted from the light source is arranged in a radial direction linking the outer periphery part and the center of the transparent base material 10a, on a surface on the light source side of the transparent base material 10a. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
