The device has a safety calculating unit i.e. digital signal processor (40), to reduce safety if two conditions are met. One of the conditions is defined such that a line mark candidate is closer to a longitudinal center line of a car than another line mark candidate. A distance between the former candidate, which is used for computation of the safety, and the latter candidate is larger than a fixed threshold value. Another one of the conditions is defined in such a manner that the distance is smaller than a reference value, where the threshold value is larger than the reference value.
