MEASUREMENT METHOD FOR VIABLE CELL COUNT, AND CULTURE MEDIUM

Disclosed is a method for identifying microbes from the B ifidobacterium breve species alone in test bacteria that contain microbes belonging to the B ifidobacterium genus and for measuring the viable bacteria count thereof, by the use of a culture medium which contains at least one type of sugar alcohol only as the sugar source, selected from either sorbitol or mannitol. Also disclosed is an easily prepared culture medium that is useful as a selective medium for use in the aforementioned measurement method.
