Disclosed is a method for identifying the longum species alone, such as Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum alone, in test bacteria that contain microbes belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium and for measuring the viable bacteria count thereof, by the use of a culture medium which contains L-arabinose alone as the sugar source thereof.Also disclosed is an easily prepared culture medium that is useful as a selective medium for use in the aforementioned measurement method.
