PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frequency converter and a frequency converting method which reduce noise caused by a local signal. SOLUTION: The frequency converter includes: a signal distributer 21 for N-distributing an input signal; a local signal generator 22 for generating a local signal LO having a frequency which is M times a difference f<SB>LO</SB>between an intermediate frequency f<SB>IF</SB>after a frequency conversion and a substantially central frequency f<SB>RF</SB>of an input signal RF; a local signal distributer 11 for N-distributing the local signal LO; N pieces of frequency dividers 12-1 to 12-N for M-dividing each local signal after distribution; N pieces of frequency converters 23-1 to 23-N for mixing each input signal from the signal distributer 21 with respective local signals L-1 to L-N from the N pieces of frequency dividers 12-1 to 12-N, respectively, to output intermediate-frequency signals IF-1 to IF-N obtained by mixing; and a signal compositing device 25 for compositing the intermediate-frequency signals IF-1 to IF-N from N pieces of frequency converters 23-1 to 23-N.
