PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a coated article and the coated article which controls peeling of a metal coated layer and has outstanding designability. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a coated article possesses [A] a fixing layer formin process of forming a fixing layer on a substrate by a composition for fixing-layer-formations containing a polymer and [B] a metal coating layer foming process of forming a metal coating layer by coating the fixing layer with the composition for a metal-coating-layer-formations containing metal nanoparticles. The polymer is desirably one or more selected from the group consisting of a Japanese lacquer, a polyurethane resin, a styrene butadiene rubber and an acrylonitrile butadiene rubber.
