<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a post for a handrail that can surely avoid the damage of the handrail due to the infiltration of water while being lightweight and maintaining strength, and to provide the handrail. <P>SOLUTION: The post 3 for the handrail is fixed to foundation concrete 2, and the whole post is formed of a solid member. One side of the post 3 is formed as an embedded portion 13 embedded in the foundation concrete 2, and the other side is formed as an exposed portion 15 exposed from the foundation concrete 2. The embedded portion 13 includes a slip-off stop part 14 of rugged shape. Since the whole post 3 is formed of the solid member, the infiltration of water into the post 3 can be surely prevented, and the damage of the handrail due to the infiltration of water can be surely avoided. The rugged shape of the slip-off stop part 14 improves turning of a filler for fixing the post 3 to the foundation concrete, inside a mounting hole 8.
