The dishwasher has a cleaning container (1) for retaining materials to be cleaned and dried, and a softening device (25) for softening water to be applied on the materials. The softening device has a supply pipeline (43) for supplying regenerating agent i.e. regenerating salt, to the softening device, where the supply pipeline extends into the container through an opening of the container. A feeding pipeline (41) conveys the water from the softening device to the container and extends into the container through the opening.
