Class 46 A liquid filter comprises a casing 1 having a cover 2 and enclosing a preliminary filter insert 7 comprising a textile fabric sleeve 8 supported, e.g., by an apertured metal jacket 9 having a bulbous end closure 11 so as to be maintained entirely out of contact with a filter insert 6 comprising a plurality of filter paper discs 6a and separated by paper discs 6b stacked about an axially bored pin 15 carried by and extending along the casing axis so as to leave an annular chamber 15a from which filtered liquid passes through a cross-bore 17 to the axial bore 18 and to an outlet 5 of the casing 1. During the assembly of the filter the insert 6 is positioned on an upwardly biased gate valve 19 covering the bore 17, a nut 24 is screwed over a threaded portion 21 of the pin 15 so as loosely to surround a reduced portion 22 thereof, the insert 7 is then located by a coaxial end 12a abutting a packing ring 14 carried by an end closure 13 and the cover 2 is clamped by screwing an internally threaded nut 23 on to the pin portion 21 whereon a packing ring 25 carried by the bulbous end 11 bears against the free nut 24 and the valve 19 uncovers the cross-bore 17. The textile sleeve 8 is held away from its support jacket 9 by beading 16 and the casing 1 has an overflow 4. The preliminary textile fabric filter serves to remove water from fuel oil.</p> |
