The invention relates to a milling cutter intended for chip removing machining of, above all, metal and of the type that comprises a rotatable basic body (1) as well as a plurality of indexable milling inserts (2), which are mounted in peripherally spaced-apart seats having a mutually fixed pitch, and which individually include an upper side (13), an under side (14) and one or more clearance surfaces (15, 16), which, together with the upper side, delimits two or more alternately applicable cutting edges (18, 19) that are uniform in their extension between first and second end points. According to the invention, different cutting edges (18, 19) included in the individual milling insert (2) are situated on different levels in relation to the under side (14) of the milling insert in order to, by indexing of at least one of the milling inserts, enable alteration of the pitch between the active cutting edges (18, 19) of the milling inserts.
