An electrofusion clamp 10 comprises a first clamp means 12 including a first clamp member 22 and a second clamp member 24 wherein the first clamp member is moveable with respect to the second clamp member such that the first clamp means is moveable from a first open or unclamped position to a second closed or clamped position; and a means 28,30 for detecting if the first clamp means is in the open position or the closed position. Preferably the means for detecting comprises first and second electrical contacts provided on respective clamp members such that when the contacts are in contact with each other, an electrical circuit is completed indicating the clamp means is in the closed position; or the detection means may be a proximity sensor. Preferably a similar second clamp means may be provided. The clamp may comprise a scraping means may be provided for scraping the surface of a plastics component being clamped. An apparatus and method of detecting whether an electrofusion clamp is in the open or closed position is also disclosed. |
