PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction device for a vacuum cleaner that prevents a rotating brush from being operated with the brush incompletely attached. SOLUTION: The suction device 8 includes: a case 10; the rotating brush which is rotatably attached to the case 10; a shaft retainer which is detachably attached to the case 10 and holds the brush in the case 10; a locking member 140 which is slidably arranged and locks the retainer to the case 10; and a protection device which prevents the brush from rotating with the locking member 140 unattached to the case 10.
