A composite foam comprising A) foamed particles comprising A1) from 25 to 95% by weight of styrene polymer(s), A2) if appropriate, a blowing agent, and A3) if appropriate, one or more additives, and B) an aminoplastic component comprising B1) from 1 to 65% by weight of cured, if appropriate modified and if appropriate foamed aminoplastic resin, B2) from 0.1 to 20% by weight of one or more flame-retardant organic phosphorus compounds having from 5 to 80% by weight phosphorus content (based on the respective compound), and/or expandable graphite, B3) if appropriate, one or more flame-retardant synergists for component B2), B4) if appropriate, a blowing agent, and B5) if appropriate, one or more additives, where—unless otherwise stated—the percentages by weight are based on the entirety of components A1), B1) and B2), is particularly suitable as insulation material.
