Disclosed are: an agent that comprises a substance that has an affinity to auto antibodies against substances-having an affinity to keratin present in gingival epithelium or the periodontal disease bacterial enzyme breakdown product thereof-and/or said breakdown product and that suppresses an autoimmune response to said breakdown product in mammals having periodontal disease bacteria in the oral cavity; a prevention and/or treatment agent for periodontal disease and/or complications thereof; a RANKL expression suppression agent comprising a substance having an affinity to said keratin or the breakdown product thereof; and a method for diagnosing periodontal disease by means of detecting said keratin or the breakdown product thereof and/or auto antibodies against same.
