METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ACCESSING UPLINK RANDOM ACCESS CHANNEL IN SC-FDMA SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose a method and a device for accessing an uplink random access channel (RACH) based on contention in an SC-FDMA system.

SOLUTION: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) randomly selects a RACH sub-channel and a signature from among a plurality of available RACH sub-channels and signatures. The WTRU transmits a preamble using the selected signature via the selected RACH sub-channel at a transmission power determined in advance or a calculated transmission power. A base station monitors the RACH to detect the preamble. When the signature is detected on the RACH, the base station transmits an acquisition indicator (AI) to the WTRU. When an affirmative acknowledgement reply (ACK) is received, the WTRU transmits the message portion to the base station. When a negative acknowledgment reply (NACK) is received or a reply is not received, the WTRU re-transmits the preamble.
