<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent requiring a short time for thickening liquid. <P>SOLUTION: The absorbent contains a polymer compound thickening liquid, and a chemical agent generating gas upon in contact with liquid. The chemical agent generating gas upon in contact with liquid generates gas when coming into contact with the liquid to be absorbed, convects the liquid to be absorbed, and works to promote the thickening of the liquid to be absorbed by the polymer compound thickening liquid.
