<p>A medical needle safety device (24) has a mount (20) for directly or indirectly supporting a medical needle (23), and a sleeve (25) for shielding a mounted needle, the shield being movable from an initial shielding position to a non-shielding position. At least one finger (28) is provided on the sleeve (25) and a control member (26) for the finger is displaceable from an initial set position, by movement of the sleeve. The finger (28) is resiliently deformable outwardly on movement of the sleeve (25) towards its non-shielding position, by interaction with the control member (26), to allow the sleeve to move to its non-shielding position. A package component (35) surrounds the safety device and overlies at least a part of the finger (28) to prevent outward deformation of the finger until the package component has been removed from the safety device, so preventing movement of the sleeve towards its non-shielding position and also movement of the control member from its set position.</p> |
