PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method which controls generating of a by-product and can synthesize a target silafluorene derivative in a simple process. SOLUTION: The silafluorene derivative shown by Structural formula (2) can be simply produced in a high yield by making 2-hydrosilyl biphenyl or its substitution product react under the presence of a catalyst. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>11</SP>, R<SP>12</SP>, R<SP>13</SP>, R<SP>14</SP>, R<SP>21</SP>, R<SP>22</SP>, R<SP>23</SP>and R<SP>24</SP>each independently denote a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, arylalkyl, arylalkenyl, arylalkynyl, a cycloalkyl, heterocyclic, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, aldehyde, carboxyl or its salt, alkylcarbonyl, arylcarbonyl, alkylcarbonyl, arylcarbonyl, alkylcarbonyloxy, arylcarbonyloxy, amino, alkylamino, arylamino, ammonium, alkylammonium, arylammonium, thiol, alkylthio, arylthio, sulfinic acid or its salt, alkylsulfinyl, aryl sulfinyl, sulfonic acid or its salt, alkylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl, alkylazo, arylazo, phosphate or its salt, phosphorous acid or its salt, cyano, nitro, or azide.
