PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-treatment apparatus capable of improving the productivity of an object to be treated as possible without causing the increase of an installation cost and an installation space, and heat accumulation, accompanied by the improvement of the production speed of the object to be treated. SOLUTION: The heat-treatment apparatus includes a heat-treatment chamber for continuously heat-treating the object to be treated, and turning means arranged at both of the input side and the output side of each step of the heat-treatment chamber so that the object to be treated may pass the interior of the heat-treatment chamber by a plurality of steps while being turned in the horizontal direction. The turning means includes a plurality of rollers parallelly arranged in the horizontal direction, and the plurality of the rollers is arranged in order of the diameters of the rollers from the one having a smaller diameter at the vicinity of the wall of the heat-treatment chamber. When such the heat-treatment apparatus is used in the production of a carbon fiber as a flame-proofing heat-treatment apparatus (flame-proofing furnace) of a precursor fiber, a flame-proofing fiber can be obtained in high productivity at a low cost, consequently, to contribute to the reduction of the production cost of the carbon fiber.
