The method involves determining measurement values of humidity sensors at defined time points, and storing the values up to a fixed memory depth. Gradients of measurement value courses are computed from the measurement values. Evaluation of the measurement values is performed based on the measurement values for a target-actual value comparison. A ventilation device is activated after end of break time. The gradients of the measurement values are evaluated during activation of the ventilation device. The break time is reset to a minimum value after a number of ventilation tests.
