Disclosed is an active layer electrically contacted to a first electrode, the first electrode being configured for SPR when interacting with light, said configuration being an array of nanostructures with a space varying periodicity and orientation so that SPR thereon is less affected by the spectral wavelength, angle, and/or polarization of the incident light.
