PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel safety device and automatically opening/closing umbrella therewith which are capable of preventing snapping-back of an umbrella shaft, solving problems in the prior art. SOLUTION: The safety device includes a ratchet device, a wire and a control lever. The lower end and upper end of the wire are attached respectively to the ratchet device and to the upper end of the umbrella shaft. The control lever has, for example, an inverted L-shaped form, and is provided rockably within a grip. When the umbrella shaft is extended, the lower end of the control lever is released from a ratchet tooth ring of the ratchet device. When the umbrella shaft is contracted, an operation surface of the control lever is separated from a tip portion of a control element, and the lower end of the control lever locks the ratchet tooth ring by the resilient force of a spring.
