OPTICAL SIGNAL TRANSMITTER, OPTICAL AMPLIFIER, OPTICAL ATTENUATOR AND OPTICAL SIGNAL TRANSMISSION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal transmitter, an optical amplifier, an optical attenuator and an optical signal transmission method for improving transmission characteristics of polarization multiplexed signals.

SOLUTION: A generator generates a polarization multiplexed signal by combining two optical signals whose polarized waves are perpendicular to each other. A detector detects the power of the two optical signals included in the polarization multiplexed signal generated by the generator. An amplifier amplifies the power of the two optical signals included in the polarization multiplexed signal generated by the generator for each polarized wave. An adjuster adjusts the relation between the power of the optical signals of the polarized waves input to the amplifier and the gain of the amplifier on the polarized waves, so that the difference in power between the two optical signals may be reduced.
