METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYMER, AND USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a solid acid catalyst which exerts an excellent catalytic ability even when being used as a catalyst for a chemical reaction performed in a hydrophobic organic solvent.

SOLUTION: The method for producing a polymer which functions as the solid acid catalyst includes the steps of: reacting a vinyl aromatic polymer with a polycyclic aromatic compound; and treating the obtained polymer with chlorosulfuric acid. There are provided the new solid acid catalyst which exerts the excellent catalytic ability when being used as the acid catalyst for the chemical reaction in the hydrophobic organic solvent and the method for producing the solid acid catalyst. The solid acid catalyst exerts the chemical reaction in the hydrophobic organic solvent, particularly the high catalytic ability as the acid catalyst for alkylation.
