PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the ease of installation of a control shaft to a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The control shaft 24 controlling a variable valve train for varying the operation characteristic of engine valves of the internal combustion engine is arranged inside the cylinder head 11 in a cylinder bank L1 direction, and a shaft end of the same is extended to the outside while passing through a through hole 29a formed in the end wall 29 of the cylinder head 11 and is connected to an actuator 30 supported on the outer face of the end wall 29. At the time of connection, as the through hole 29 is formed in an oblong hole elongated in a cylinder axis L2 direction, even when the shaft end of the control shaft 24 is not inserted in the through hole 29a while being moved in the cylinder bank L1 direction because a projection such as a cam is formed on the shaft 24, the shaft end can be inserted in the through hole 29a with the control shaft 24 inclined to the cylinder bank L1 direction and then the control shaft can be installed in parallel to a cylinder bank L1, so that the ease of installation of the control shaft 24 is improved.
