Disclosed is a method for producing high purity succinic acid from a liquid containing succinic acid by crystallization. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing succinic acid that crystallizes the succinic acid from a liquid containing succinic acid while stirring in a crystallization tank provided with a stirring apparatus. The production method is a method for producing succinic acid characterized by having a stirring power requirement of 0.4 kW/m3 - 3 kW/m3 per unit volume of the liquid containing succinic acid in the tank and crystallizes the succinic acid from the liquid containing succinic acid in the crystallization tank. The method is further characterized in that the crystallized succinic acid is continuously or intermittently withdrawn from the crystallization tank and characterized by having the liquid containing succinic acid continuously or intermittently supplied to the crystallization tank and having a crystallization process that maintains a prescribed range of liquid levels in the crystallization tank.
