Provided are a method and a device that inhibit flat spots from being formed on a tire of a vehicle such as an automobile, or that reduce the degree of flat spots, by providing the belt of the tire with a bending moment in a direction that causes the opposite sides of the belt to bend radially outward in the contact patch of the tire when the tire is at rest, and thereby inhibiting flexure caused by the compression of carcass cords in the contact patch of the tire. To provide said bending moment, a projection member that is narrower than the width of the tread of a tire of a vehicle is arranged on a surface with which the tire contacts when the vehicle is parked or halted, and the projection member presses the tread of the tire.
